Award Ceremony Honoring Outstanding works at the 16th National Architecture Awards (2024 – 2025)

On the evening of May 20, 2025, the 16th National Architecture Awards Ceremony (2024 – 2025) took place at the Hanoi Opera House, honoring 53 outstanding works in the fields of architecture. The event not only marked an important milestone in the journey of honoring architectural creativity but also had profound significance as it took place on the occasion of the whole country solemnly celebrating the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day (1975-2025).

The award ceremony was attended by Mr. Tran Hong Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Ms. Dinh Thi Mai, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission; Mr. Nguyen Tuong Van, Deputy Minister of Construction; Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Do Hong Quan, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts; Mr. Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army; Mr. Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee; leaders representing the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance; Chairmen of Central Associations and Unions. The Vietnam Association of Architects was attended by Mr. Phan Dang Son – President of the Association and other leaders, Standing Committee, Executive Committee of the Association; Architects representing Associations, Branches of Architects, generations of architects nationwide, representatives of businesses that have accompanied the Vietnam Association of Architects and press and media units.

The National Architecture Award is the most prestigious national award in the field of architecture, assigned by the Prime Minister to the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The award is selected and awarded every two years. The award aims to promote creativity, honor authors and outstanding architectural works nationwide, contribute to the development of Vietnamese architecture and raise public awareness of the art of architecture.

The 2024-2025 National Architecture Award recorded a record number of 239 entries in the following categories: Architectural works; Interior and exterior architecture and Landscape architecture – Urban design; Planning; Research – Theory – Architectural criticism. After a scientific, serious and objective process through the selection rounds, the 2024-2025 National Architecture Award Council selected 53 outstanding works to award and honor, including: 1 Grand Prize, 5 Gold Prizes, 12 Silver Prizes, 35 Bronze Prizes. In addition, the Award also honored the unit with the most achievements in the award period, the “For the development of architecture” Award and the award for the work voted by the community the most.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Hong Ha was impressed by the record number and quality of the works awarded this year, highlighting the trend of green, ecological architecture, harmony between humans and nature, while preserving and honoring national cultural identity. With a strategic vision, the Deputy Prime Minister has set important directions for the Vietnamese architecture industry in the period of green transformation, digital transformation and international integration. The strong messages on innovation, heritage preservation, urban development and sustainable social housing… are not only a call to architects, but also a commitment of the Government to accompany and create conditions for Vietnamese architecture to reach regional and world levels.

According to the National Architecture Awards Council 2024-2025, this year’s participating works have made progress in both quantity and quality, showing diversity and richness in types, from popular works such as houses, restaurants to high-end projects such as hotels, yachts, etc. Especially the return of works in the heritage conservation category. This is a positive signal, demonstrating the harmonious relationship between modern architecture and respecting and treating past heritage, towards a sustainable future. In addition, this year’s award-winning works show that the creative thinking of Vietnamese architects has been innovative, updating world trends, while focusing on exploiting traditional cultural identity, promoting the functionality and context of the works.

From an international perspective, Prof. Architect Marco Casamonti – Co-founder of Archea Associati, Member of the Jury, expressed his impression: “Judging from the 239 entries, I really see that the quality of the projects participating in this year’s National Architecture Awards is quite high. This clearly demonstrates that, at the present time, many Vietnamese architects are creating truly interesting, unique and courageous works”.

The National Architecture Award is part of the official State Awards system in the field of Architecture and is one of the nomination bases for the State to consider and award the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize in the field of Literature and Arts. According to the Law on Architecture 2019, the winner of the National Architecture Award will be exempted from the requirement of continuous professional development (CPD) when renewing the Certificate of Architectural Practice.
